The fall is upon us, our thought's surrounds us!

Haye there people!
It's october for christ sake?! Who would have thought we would make it through that horrible flat summer? Well, I'm back and still breathing (barely). From now on I'm not gonna promise any new posts in the near future, but there will come some random ones just like this one!

The Loners
Did ya notice the fact that I wrote : "I'm back.." -well, it happens to be like this: Ben went to Bali, Indo to rip up some perfect lefty's 'nd right's over there...and left me and the rest of the gang hangin' back here
... But we're ofcourse happy for the lad and I think I speak for all of us when I say I wish I was there to rip Indo with him! I've been dreaming about that place for a great while now, and guess what - in just 5 days I will apply for next fall's semester at Gateway College @ Bali, so you bet I'm gonna be there next July to get a head start on my surfing-without-boardshorts-career! You see, the semester is only 3 months, so I'm heading down there one month in advance to get the most out of the journey ;)

Injury and such BS
W
ell, these days we're on break from school - for me it was supposed to be one week of intensive surfing - getting ready for the Volcom vqs Codfish tournament from 16th -> 18th this month. Sadly for me (whine whine) I got injured two weeks ago. I was out on a pretty heavy day with some mates (and another local with NM experience) and I was caught by the lip after an OK bottom turn.. The wave was huuuge, maybe the biggest I've ever whiped out on (and yes, it has been quite a few..) and I got pulled down straight to the bottom of the beach and hit the sand with a bang! I hit my shoulder pretty bad, but I didn't know what it was so I just paddled out in the lineup again, this time when I paddled for the wave it really, really hurt! So I went in and called it a day. Two days later I got it checked out at the hospital, aaand they told me that I had - wait for it - partly dislokated my shoulder(!) Yes, how could it be? Well, I've been asking myself that question every day for the last two weeks now. Good new's though, I'm feeling better and better every day and today I got to do my first pushups in far too long! As soon as I get my new board I'm sure heading out, back into the Karmøy lineup! -Said what?...
Cohete
A
llrightythen! Yes there it is, my NEW shortboard! it's a 6'2 squashtail, made by a shaper called John Tsoutis from Greece actually. The board has been used twice by a team-rider but was put out for sale on ebay, luckily for me I found it got a bid on! Today, or, well it's actually yesterday now since I'm writing this in the middle of the night - ANYWAY - I went to Stavanger (Surf Capital of Norway) to meet up with Karmøy surfer Ragnhild (a.k.a. Ræggys), she just arrived from Jerusalem (don't ask why). She bought a Roxy wetsuit to get ready for the cold Norwegian winter that is coming up. Well all you Norwegian surfers know what that means - big swells and lot's of 'em! I bought a new set of FCS fins for the new board (the "Flex Glass K2.1") and a leash. So wintersurf here we are!
Speaking of wintersurf! Next weekend Rob, Ozzy, The Foreigner, Pladen, Ræggys & Prytz are heading down south to Stavanger and Jæren for the 2009 VOLCOM VQS CODFISH! Rob had intentions of competing, but had to eat his own words cuz of the injury (Ozzy says: yeah right!). Also this winter a lot of time will go into nutrition and more physical training not in the surf. Still, Rob has not surfed without a wetsuit(!)(!)

Travelling the tides of the world.
It's october and rainy, it makes you think. More than usual. Well, at least I do. I think about how it would be to live somewhere warmer, with more consistante swells. Like the U.S. or Aussie - the places nearly all the WCT pros are from. If it were up to me, I would just take all my friends and family and move to Bali, Indo. Straight away! It's cheap, it's sunny and hot all year and it has got a great variety of waves. From the popular Kuta Beach to the terrifying and glorious Padang-Padang just a little boat-trip away from Bali.
I think this is maybe the biggest reason for the total lack of Scandinavian representation on the world tour. Here, in Norway (and in Sweden, and Denmark etc.) we don't got the pumping waves all year - we've got some crushing waves in the winter and 7mm wetsuits to make it through the icy cold. You can imagine the restrained ability to move in those rubbersuits!
That is why next year, I'm leaving Norway for half-a-year.. And hopefully I will return to the Island of my dreams after I'm done with Sogndal Folkehøgskule (the school with the arrangement with Gateway C.) I want to evolve, not just as a surfer (but that mostly..he-he) but also as a person. I live in a small city with many bad people. I want to get away, to a place where I can get some peace in mind and get to focus more on doing what I love - surfing! This is where I can evolve as an athlete and human beeing,
Bali -> I can't wait!

HEYHEYHEY everybody! Guess who's fuckin back!?

I can't really recall when it was the last time I "blogged", gotta be at least four months or so... Well, the only reason why I write this shit now is because we're in a dryspell...a REALLY DRY SPELL!! there hasn't been waves for two weeks, and before that it was 16 days! Well, it ain't much we can do about the swell though, so we're just hangin' in there.

Water, we have to be in the water! Even though there are no waves in sight...that's why I love boats and wakeboards! Well today we're trying out surfboards after the boats but hey, that's new for us right? Ben has this place near Bokn where we can unleash our frustration about the damn waveless ocean... Oskar and Andy (two not-surfers) have been joining, they're cool fellas and Oskar know's his shit with them wakeboards..damn he shreds!:D

The picture above is from a ridiculously photoshoot we had after our last surfsesh.. Ragnhild (fresh meat surfer) went all crazy with the camera and took pitctures every damn sec...well, in the picture u can see my new board! I've decided to commit to longboarding! It's a 9 footer FROST board, old school style! I'm so fascinated by that particular style of surfing, therefore me, Ben and Oscar (bodyboarder from Chile) went to Stvg where I bought one (from a really nice lady by the way!)... Wondering what longboarding's like? Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz-6ukqj4gM

Surfing or not, these days the pro's are shredding down south in Brazil! You should check it out..the annual Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro 2009! It's the fourth stop on the WCT tour and round 3 is closing in.. So far on the ASP World Tour our 9 time world champ Kelly Slater's performance has not been impressive.. in two of the three events he has not even relegated from round 2, beeing knocked out by noobies.. BUT yesterday I watched Kelly surf just like in the "old days" and won his heat, advancing to round 3 were he'll face Ben Dunn!

So people, enjoy the summer and check out the Hang Losse Santa Catarina Pro '09! http://www.clicrbs.com.br/especial/sc/wctbrasil/home,0,3816,Home.html (follow the link and press LIVE on the left hand menu) The heats begin everyday at about 12:30 local Norwegian time (07:30 in Santa Catarina)..Today is a Lay Day though... :(

Hello partypeople!

Been a looong time since a put in a peace, this can be because of a lot of surfing!! The surf is amazing these days, actually I'm rather shocked that it could be THIS good! The sun has even been with us the last couple of times, so I'm superstoked! The waves has been changing every day, so you could get like these smooth 5-6 feet waves perfect for longboarding one day, and biig 8-10 feet powerwaves fit for shortboards...the only problem with these days is that me'nd Ben aren't exactly world champs with our shortboards - yet! :P

My tip for the week/month - get out there folks! it's rad! :D
Stay loose, Rob

Here's one of Rob, this one was really close - but ended up with a nosedive right there!

Ben doing his thing right here!

Surf's Up!

Hey all of you animals!

Long time no read ye?! Well guess what man - we're back! And from now on we'll try to keep this thing going..
Since last time both Rob and Ben got themselves some new short-boards - and they're loving it! January and February is the main surf season here in the cold north and this is when it's going down!

The waves are bigger and meaner, but man are they sweet! And another thing that just seriously kicks ass, is that there are soo much more days with great surf! It's almost like you don't have to check the forecast, because your nearly guarantied smooth waves! IF you check out the different spots of course.. You can't give up just because the first beach didn't offer any surfable waves! Keep on going and you'll find a place! So, are you stoked? You wanna go surf, right?! :D WELL GET A FREAKIN BOARD AND GET OUT THERE! -We'll be waitin' for you dude! (or dudette!)

So check this out, Ben's been surfing almost everyday this week!! Now how's that for Norway?, huh?! Impressed? I (Rob) caught a cold, so I was pretty pissed off! BUT I got to surf yesterday and that was pretty sweet! -Even though it was windy as hell!
Well, we're going out on sunday - so grab a board and a mate and join us! The waves will be pretty small, so don't bother visiting Ferkingstad for a peek, go straight to Mjølhus!

We'll put some pictures in here soon from the latest sessions, but I don't really have them yet!
So peace and love and all that, hang loose until next time alright! And remember, as the days go by - we just keep getting closer to hit the pavement with our longboards again! I'm hoping to see many new longboarders this year!

- Rob

End of Season

You notice a chill going down your spine, your hands are colder than yesterday and the old boardshorts from early summer has been replaced by a worm couple of jeans months ago. You have barely seen the sun for weeks, the pavement is never dry enough to really enjoy your SuperDuper longboardskills and your just waiting for the next paycheck so you can invest in some shoes to your wetsuit because the water is fucking freezing! You realize it, all you can really do now is wait for the snow to fall and cover up the mountains, so you once again can shred some deep, nice, soft, orgasmic powdersnow. Aah - POWDER!

After a long summer with lots of sunny days and turfsurfing as well as some nice days in the water, you tend to forget about the feeling of the new winter season's first descent. But when the lifts once again start after a looong break, you feel a kind of tingeling (no - not in your dick) in your legs. They want to get out there, on the board - or skis. They have been secretly longing for the feeling of a deep turn in some fresh powder, a steep back - country drop or hovering weightless in mid - air and then landing that first, perfect jump. There's not a lot of time left to wait for that first descent. But man does it feel like a lifetime! You can't surf, you can't skate and no matter what - the lifts won't start, not yet. You have to be patience, not one of my best qualities. So I make the best of it. How? Well, you happen to have a Xbox360, PS3 or Wii and an extra five hundred bucks? Go to your nearest gamestore and buy Shaun White Snowboarding! An excellent way to waste time you would have spent on longboarding, surfing or being on the mountain shredding!

My only tip for you guys who, as well as me, are finding themselves in this annoying position: Be Patient. Yeah right, screw that - it's just bullshit anyway! Patience is way overrated! Just realize it guys - THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU CAN DO! (Except for all you spoiled brats who can ask their dad for some money to go to the alps or Aspen or something..)
So just chill out and hang loose all you dudes and dudettes!
